what to expect

The treatment starts with the consultation. I will give you a call prior to the first treatment and ask you about your condition and symptoms. I would like to get the full picture of your health to diagnose your condition and choose the right acu-points. Please make sure to inform me of your full medical and drug history. 

 

When you come to my clinic, I take a pulse and check your tongue, which helps diagnose your condition. Then I may ask you to lie down. It is advisable to wear loose clothing so that you can roll up to access the areas to be needled. 

 

When you are ready, some fine, disposable needles will be inserted through the skin. The needles shouldn’t cause pain but you might feel a tingling sensation or dull ache. They are usually only temporary. The needles are left in place for 15-30 minutes. Sometimes they are heated or stimulated or attached to a very weak electrical current. Moxibustion, cupping, gua sha or electroacupuncture might be used to achieve better results. You should find treatments very relaxing and you may fall asleep as most of my clients do.
